Class of 2025 demonstrates compassion, readiness to lead

This past spring, members of the Class of 2024 didn’t just complete their senior capstone projects. In this work, our latest graduates demonstrated what it means to be agents of change.

Out of 43 students, 60% pursued the Community Track, developing everything from inclusive volunteer training to tools that improve quality of life for individuals of all abilities. Beyond ideas, their projects were action, compassion and advocacy in motion.

On the Education Track, 12 students dug deep into the future of occupational therapy education. Nearly half – an impressive 42% – had their work accepted for presentation at the American Occupational Therapy Association's prestigious Education Summit, a clear sign that their voices are already shaping the profession.

Meanwhile, those on the Research Track explored some of the field’s most complex questions. Using coding and data analysis, they tackled challenges that will inform best practices and strengthen our evidence base for years to come.

  • Among the many powerful projects, two stood out for their immediate and heartfelt impact:
  • Hailey Compton brought theory to life with a NICU-based initiative that is already being implemented to improve care and family engagement for our tiniest patients.
  • Mary Davis blended creativity, advocacy and accessibility by writing and self-publishing a children’s book, leaving a lasting gift to the community and a new resource for inclusive storytelling.

These students embody VCU Occupational Therapy’s commitment to theory-informed practice, scholarly inquiry and servant leadership. We are proud of all they’ve accomplished and look forward to what they will contribute next.
