Ukrainian delegates visit CHP to explore clinical practices
A delegation of Ukrainian health professionals visited the VCU College of Health Professions in early November as part of the Congressional Office for International Leadership’s Open World Program, a 10-day exchange that connects global leaders with American institutions.

The multidisciplinary group – including occupational therapists, physical therapists, neuropsychologists, neurosurgeons and health administrators – met with representatives from departments across the college. The visiting professionals sought practical strategies they could apply amid wartime conditions, particularly around assessment, rehabilitation and supporting patients with serious injuries.
Kerry Mader, OTD, OTR/L, CLA, c/NDT, served as the point person for the Department of Occupational Therapy. “We explored how to use what little equipment they have to address the needs of individuals who might have a spinal cord injury, a traumatic brain injury or an amputation,” she said. “They’re so selfless in their service and passionate about their country; it made me want to be a better person, just being in the room with them.”
